Common issues
Make sure you're signed in — click the puzzle icon in Chrome's toolbar → Skim → Options. If you're signed in and the panel still doesn't appear, try refreshing the page. Some PDFs embedded inside iframes may take a few seconds to be detected.
Your session has expired. Open the extension settings, sign out, then sign back in with Google. Sessions are automatically refreshed — if you see this error the refresh failed.
Skim extracts text from PDFs. It cannot read PDFs that are entirely image-based (scanned documents) or encrypted with a password. If your PDF is image-only, consider running it through an OCR tool first.
Free accounts get 5 questions per day for PDFs up to 60 pages. Skim Pro gives you unlimited questions and unlimited PDF length.
No. PDF text is held in server memory only for the duration of your session (up to 2 hours) and is never written to a database or disk. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
To sign out, open extension settings and click "Sign Out". To delete your account entirely, email pdf.chat.extension@gmail.com with the subject "Delete my account".
Visit skim.chat/billing, sign in with Google, and click "Manage Subscription". This opens the Stripe customer portal where you can cancel, change plans, or update payment details.
